Picente Statement on Passing of Former County Legislator Bernie Burns

“Eleanor and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Bernie Burns and our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. Bernie was a great friend who served Oneida County well as a Legislator representing parts of Kirkland and New Hartford for more than 20 years. His name was synonymous with Clinton, having dedicated much of his life as an athlete, coach, teacher and referee in the Clinton Central School District, Hamilton College and as the last native to play for the Clinton Comets. His public speeches and debating prowess were legendary among his peers and he will be sorely missed. The flags at county buildings will be lowered to half-staff in his honor for the next two days.”
