Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Jr. issued a proclamation to the American Cancer society today recognizing the month of March as Colorectal Cancer Prevention Month in Oneida County.

Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second most common cause of cancer deaths for men and women in the United States. The proclamation stated that, “Oneida County recognizes and commends the American Cancer Society and Cancer Services Program for their relentless efforts to provide information on the importance of prevention and early detection and to provide access to services for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Oneida County.”

“With the issuance of this proclamation, we are hoping to raise awareness of colorectal cancer and to encourage people to be screened for the early detection of colon cancer,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente.

The proclamation was presented to Peter Cittadino, Executive Director of the American Cancer Society.
