Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Jr. announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established a toll-free number for individuals seeking assistance from damage as a result of Hurricane Irene.
The number is  1-800-621-3362.

“The first step for anyone who may want assistance for damage as a result of the storm caused by Hurricane Irene is to contact FEMA so that they can register with the agency and begin applying for assistance,” Picente said. “Recovery teams will be available by the end of the week to help area residents deal with damage from floods and other issues. This is the time when businesses and homeowners that may have sustained damage need to make a thorough inspection of their property and have comprehensive information ready so that they can have all the information FEMA will need already compiled and documented.”

Picente said that county officials will continue to work with residents as well as local governments to facilitate assistance. “The process of seeking assistance after a disaster can often be complex and lengthy,” Picente said. “County Government will work with our local governments and residents to expedite assistance and cut through red tape. We urge anyone who may be seeking assistance through FEMA to begin the process now by using the toll-free line to contact the agency.
