State and Federal Officials Visit Oneida County to Assess Storm Damage
State and Federal officials were in Oneida County on Thursday to assess storm damage, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. announced today. Among those visiting was the State Director of the New York State Office for Emergency Management, Andrew Feeney.
The team visited several local sites that had been severely damaged, with the intent to evaluate how much damage had been caused and as to whether Oneida County qualifies for federal assistance. Both public and private property was seen. The officials were working with local representatives to quantify the amount of damage into a dollar amount.
“It was important that these officials see the level of damage that was caused by this storm,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. He went on to say, “They had the opportunity to see some of the heaviest hit spots in the County, and got to speak face to face with many owners of homes that were destroyed.”
The officials were also visiting other parts of Central/Upstate New York that were devastated by storms, including Onondaga County and Jefferson County. At this point, they are unsure what type of aid, and how much will be made available. It may be several weeks before a determination is made.
