Under the ‘Mohawk Valley and Niagara County Assessment Relief Act,’ home and business owners in Oneida County whose properties sustained major damage in the flooding of 2013 can apply for a property tax reassessment, if their 2013 assessed value did not reflect this damage. This legislation is important tax relief for local property owners who sustained significant damage in last year’s major flooding.

County Executive Picente said “We can never stop natural disasters from occurring but what we can do is prepare and take care of all those affected to the best of our ability. We took another step in that direction today by opting into this program. This will give tax relief to those whose property has been damaged by this flood.”

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi who sponsored the legislation in the Assembly “Many residents living in the Mohawk Valley suffered significant property damage due to last summer’s storms, and many of them contacted my office. In response, I sponsored legislation to provide a property tax reduction for these taxpayers. I want to thank County Executive Picente and members of the Oneida County Board of Legislators for recognizing the need these county residents have for tax relief after suffering significant losses in these storms by adopting this resolution.”

Picente added “I want to thank Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi for his leadership in making this essential program available to all those who have suffered from the floods of 2013.”

Today, unanimously and with the support of the Oneida County Executive, Oneida County opted into the program.
