Increase Payment Is Due To Prolonged Harsh Winter Conditions

County Executive Picente announced today, and increase of $200 per mile in additional payment for this past winter to municipalities that have snow plow contracts with the county.

County Executive Picente said “we have built a strong financial base in our County and with it have accumulated an operating surplus for the past four years. These responsible approaches to our finances have allowed us the flexibility to react to unforeseen circumstances as they arise.”

Due to a heavier than average number of weather events this past snow season Oneida County DPW has determined the average cost per mile was higher than the 5 year average contracted amount.  County Executive Picente has made available additional monies to help offset these additional costs.

Picente went on to say “I understand the variables during the winter months which is why for the second year in a row I have proposed this adjustment so everyone is properly compensated.  These inter-municipal agreements are a testament to the level of efficiency and cost saving measures we can reach together to the benefit of all the taxpayers of Oneida County and for those each municipality.”

Chairman of the Oneida County Board of Legislators Gerald Fiorini said “The winter has been harsher than expected and we are pleased to be able to work with the County Executive and the municipalities to increase this payment.  The County Executive and I appreciate all the work the towns and their employees due to keep the roads clear and safe during the winter.”

The Board of Legislators will vote on approval of this proposal at their June meeting.
