Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. today announced that he is appointing Attorney Gregory J. Amoroso of Rome as Oneida County Attorney, replacing Linda Dillon who will retire from the position at the end of 2011.

“Greg Amoroso has significant experience working with government and a reputation for integrity and professionalism in the legal community” Picente said. “He is highly qualified to provide the type of leadership that is necessary in the office of the County Attorney. Linda Dillon has provided great service to the County of Oneida during her tenure as County Attorney and in her many years of valuable service as Special Assistant County Attorney prior to assuming leadership of the Department in 2006. The Office of the County Attorney is one that is vital to the functioning of county government through the advice and counsel provided to all County offices. I know that Greg will continue the high standards set by Linda and her predecessors.”

Greg Amoroso, who served as corporation counsel for the City of Rome from 1996-2002 after two years of experience in that office, is currently a partner with Saunders, Kahler L.L.P., a practice he joined in 2002. He will be leaving his position there upon officially taking over as full time County Attorney. Greg also served as a counsel for State Senator Joseph Griffo from 2007 to 2008, focusing on elections law. Greg also has served as Oneida County’s labor counsel since 2004.  He received his Juris Doctor Degree from Syracuse University in 2003, and graduated from Utica College in 1989 with a B.S. Degree in Public Relations and Journalism. Greg Amoroso is a member of the Board of Directors of the Oneida County Bar Association and a member of the Board for the Rome Industrial Development Corp. He resides in Rome with his wife and two children.

The appointment will require confirmation of the Board of Legislators at their first regular session in January 2012.
