Picente Statement on the passing of former County Executive Charles Lanigan

“Eleanor and I are saddened by the passing of Charles Lanigan. Mr. Lanigan was the very first County Executive here in Oneida County in 1963. The legacy he left is in the example he set as the Chief Executive of our County. He had vision and leadership abilities that every County Executive should try to emulate. His accomplishments were monumental, from securing Utica as the County Seat of government, construction of a new County Office Building, a catalyst for the creation of the SUNY Campus in Oneida County and leading the region through a fundamental change in government. He also was a leader in State Government as a member of the NY State Thruway Authority.  He was truly a visionary and Eleanor and I are better for having known him and our community is better for having been led by him during a crucial time in our history. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time. “ – Anthony J. Picente Jr.
