Picente Proclaims Sept. 17-23 Sheriff's Week in Oneida County

Oneida Sherriff’s Office’s Contributions Honored

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. has proclaimed the week of September 17-23, 2017 to be Sheriff’s Week in Oneida County.

Sheriff’s Week celebrates the significant contributions made by the Office of the Sheriff in county government and in the statewide criminal justice system.

“I hope that everyone takes some time this week to think about the dedicated service of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “We are extremely grateful for the exceptional work every man and woman puts in to keep our residents safe and their commitment should be recognized on a daily basis.”

Sheriff’s Week is being celebrated throughout New York State and Governor Cuomo has also issued a proclamation recognizing this special week.

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol is one of 55 of 58 sheriffs in New York State who is an elected official and is held accountable to citizen vote every four years.

He is responsible for the complex operations of a sheriff’s office which include criminal law enforcement, traffic patrol, marine patrol, snowmobile patrol, emergency rescue operations, dive team, homeland security programs, SWAT operations, civil emergency response, jail operations, correctional alternative management, courtroom security, school resource officers, school and public building security and civil litigation process.

To mark the occasion, the New York State Sheriffs’ Association is sharing two public service announcements designed to inform the public about all the public safety services provided by their sheriff. The links for these PSAs can be found at www.nysheriffs.org .

The New York State Sheriffs’ Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1934 to assist all 58 of New York’s sheriffs in serving and protecting the citizenry through member-supported training programs, accreditation, legislative advocacy and public safety programs.
