Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Jr. issued a proclamation today which proclaimed February 4, 2011 as “Wear Red Day in Oneida County.”

The proclamation stated that “Wear Red Day in Oneida County is an opportunity for women across Oneida County to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and support the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red. It's a simple, powerful way to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke.” It went on to say that, “Wear Red Day is an important effort on the part of the American Heart Association to help women understand the reality that heart disease affects people of both genders, so that they can assess their own personal family history and lifestyle risk factors as well as make health choices that will enhance life for themselves and their families.”

Picente presented the proclamation at a breakfast for the American Heart Association. The event recognized the work of volunteers, and involved a discussion on ways to promote awareness of the fight against heart disease.
