Picente: Flags at Half-Staff to Honor Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy Kurt Wyman
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr., is calling for all flags flown within Oneida County to be lowered to half staff on Monday, June 13, 2011 in honor of Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy Kurt Wyman. Deputy Wyman was killed in the line of duty on June 7, 2011. The funeral service for Deputy Wyman will be held on Monday, June 13th at the Utica Auditorium and Picente is asking all county workers and those who work with county departments to observe June 13th as a day of mourning for Deputy Wyman.
“The men and women of our Oneida County Sheriff’s Office put themselves at risk every day on behalf of the people of Oneida County,” Picente said. “All of us deeply mourn the tragic loss of Deputy Wyman, which took place while he was upholding his commitment to protect and serve this community. We extend our heartfelt sympathy and our prayers to his wife and his family. I also extend my personal condolences to the members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department for the loss of a brother officer.”
“We are lowering the flags at the Oneida County Office Building and all of our county-owned buildings as a sign of respect and to honor to an officer who this week made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our safety. I ask that the people of Oneida County join all of us in sharing thoughts and prayers for his family members as we observe a day of mourning for a dedicated deputy and for all of those who are struggling with grief in this very difficult time.”
