In another measure of the outstanding work done at Oneida County’s 911 Emergency Operations Center, Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr., today announced that the New York State Sheriff’s Association has bestowed its coveted accreditation upon Oneida County’s center.

Accreditation by the NYS Sheriff’s Association requires that 70 standards be met. Only 12 911 Centers in New York State have been able to achieve this standard.

“The Oneida County 911 Center is an outstanding operation that serves the public with tremendous efficiency and effectiveness day in and day out, and I am very proud of the work of every member of the team that makes the 911 Center a success,” Picente said. “There were some very high expectations placed upon the personnel at the Center when we consolidated operations and began routing every community’s emergency calls into this one center. This accreditation is proof that the team at the Center has risen to the challenge of protecting the people of Oneida County, and that the investments we have made in technology and equipment are being recognized for their value in helping to keep the public safe.”

Oneida County Emergency Services Director Kevin Revere, who was presented with the accreditation by NYS Sheriff’s Association Counsel Thomas Mitchell during a meeting of the Oneida County Board of Legislators, said that the accreditation was the result of teamwork and dedication. “The people who work at the center know the responsibility we have, and we take each and every call with the utmost professionalism, knowing that the people of Oneida County, as well as the Board here and the County Executive, have entrusted us with the responsibility to be the first line of assistance when someone calls for help.  This is a proud day for all of us at the Center, and for all of our partners.

In 2012, the Center received 354,490 calls (including both 911 and 7 digit calls). Of those, 128,314 were placed using the 911 emergency number.
