Picente Announces Agreement With Central NY SPCA
SPCA To Conduct Animal Cruelty Investigations in Oneida County
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. announced at a press conference today an agreement with Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (CNYSPCA). The agreement creates a relationship between the County of Oneida and the CNYSPCA in order for the CNYSPCA to function as Oneida County’s animal cruelty investigators going forward.
County Executive Picente said “We said late last year we needed to address the problem of animal cruelty in our county and today we have done that. We looked at all the different approaches we could take. We met with the stakeholders in the community and we solicited input from Sheriff Maciol, District Attorney McNamara and the Chairman of the Board of Legislators Gerald Fiorini. After processing the information we feel this is the best way to proceed for the benefit of the taxpayers, community stakeholders and most importantly the animals.”
Picente was joined in support for the agreement by Paul Morgan the Executive Director of the CNYSPCA, Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara, Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol as well as representatives from the major community stakeholders, Stevens-Swan Humane Society, Spring Care Farms and the Rome Humane Society.
The County Executive went on to say “You know you have the right fit when everyone involved, from the stakeholders, law enforcement and the County Legislature all unanimously agrees on the right way to move forward.”
The contract agreement will be voted on at the Oneida County Board of Legislator’s meeting on March 12th. The agreement is for one year totaling $102,000.
Trained CNYSPCA Officers investigate complaints of cruelty, neglect and abandonment and are peace officers licensed by the State of New York. All animals are covered under the Cruelty Laws that are enforced by the Central New York SPCA.
Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (CNYSPCA) provide many services for the animals in our area, including adoption, education, spay/neuter programs, and investigation into animal cruelty.
