Picente Announces 3rd Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up October 22nd and 23rd

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr., today announced that once again the Oneida County Youth Bureau and the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care will join forces to unite area youth with the elderly to deliver general yard clean-up services through their 3^rd Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up scheduled for Saturday October 22^nd and Sunday October 23^rd. The initiative, which coincides with Make A Difference Day, is collaboration between the Oneida County Youth Bureau, the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care, Oneida County colleges, school districts, youth organizations and merchants.

“Last October, 450 youth volunteers throughout Oneida County raked and bagged leaves, swept porches and driveways and brought light refuse to the curb at 100 senior citizen households,” Picente said. “The annual Intergenerational Fall and Spring Clean-Ups deliver these much needed services to our Oneida County senior citizens whom physically can no longer do the work themselves or being on a fixed income, can’t financially afford to have their yards cleaned for them.”

The clean-up services will be delivered between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM each day. The goal will be to clean as many yards as possible, depending on the number of volunteers and the number of volunteers in each specific area. THERE WILL BE NO RAIN DATE!

Volunteer groups are still being sought. Any interested volunteer group; athletic team, school club or youth organization should contact the Oneida County Youth Bureau at 798-5027.

Any senior citizen interested in applying for the fall clean-up should contact the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care at 798-5456.

The 4^th Annual Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday April 28^th and Sunday April 29^th 2012. Any youth, youth organization, athletic team or club interested in volunteering for the spring clean-up should contact the Oneida County Youth Bureau at 798-5027. Any senior citizen interested in applying for the spring clean-up should contact the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing care at 798-5456.
