Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. today announced that the 16th Annual Miles for Meals Jingle Bell Run and Walk will take place this Saturday, December 1st in Rome. The event is sponsored by the Roman Runners, Rome Family Y, and International House of Pancakes. Proceeds will benefit the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care Senior Nutrition Program.

Picente said, “This is a great event that supports a great program. Our Office for the Aging Senior Nutrition Program serves over 1,500 senior citizens in communities all across Oneida County. These are individuals who have given so much to our community and now may need a little help. I am proud that County Government offers programs such as this to provide assistance, and I hope to see a great turnout as we raise awareness of the program and raise money to help offset our ever-increasing costs. Together, we can serve our seniors in the way that they deserve.”

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Rome Family Y, 301 W. Bloomfield Street, Rome. Pre- registration is $20.00 or $25.00 the day of the event, Saturday, December 1st. The 5K run starts at the Rome Y at 9:00 a.m. and the 1 mile walk at 9:05 a.m.

At 9:30 a. m. a free pancake breakfast will be served to all participants and volunteers of the 1-mile walk and 5K run, sponsored by the International House of Pancakes (IHOP). For those interested in attending the pancake breakfast tickets are available for $5.00 per person at the event on Saturday morning.

The purpose of Miles for Meals is to raise pledges and awareness for the Senior Nutrition Program. The Office for the Aging Senior Nutrition Program serves individuals through both the congregate dining and home delivered meal program (Meals on Wheels).
