Oneida County Restructures Social, Senior, Youth & Veteran Services

Agencies Realign Under New Department of Family and Community Services

The Oneida County Department of Social Services, Office for the Aging & Continuing Care, Veterans Services Agency and Youth Bureau have been restructured into the newly-formed Department of Family and Community Services.

“The goal of this restructuring is to enhance the Oneida County human service system by creating a holistic, seamless and streamlined approach to service delivery,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “By integrating these agencies into the new Department of Family and Community Services, we will not only be improving the health and livability for our residents, but also reducing the cost of government operation through increased efficiency.”

The Department of Family and Community Services is headed by Commissioner Colleen Fahy-Box. Michael Romano serves as the new department’s Deputy Commissioner.

Veterans Services and the Youth Bureau will continue to be headed by Joe Perrone and Kevin Green respectively, and be included under the administrative structure of the Department of Family and Community Services.

While there are no immediate changes to the locations where the services of the restructured departments are delivered to the public from, the Medicaid Eligibility and Adult Protective Services offices are planned to be shifted to 120 Airline St. in Oriskany in the future.

The Oneida County Board of Legislators voted to approve amending the county charter and administrative code to reflect the restructuring at its Nov. 13, 2019 meeting. The reorganization officially went into effect on Dec. 23, 2019.
