Several events planned leading up to 10th Annual Walk for Autism

National Autism Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about autism, promote inclusion and self-determination for all and assure that each person with Autism Spectrum Disorder is provided the opportunity to achieve the highest possible quality of life.

Oneida County has been doing its part throughout April to lend its support to the cause, and in the coming week, will be raising money for the Kelberman Center’s 10th Annual Walk for Autism in a variety of ways.

“Many of us have had our lives touched by Autism in one form or another,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “It’s important not only to raise awareness, but also to provide all the support possible to those who are diagnosed and their families. And it is equally crucial that we do everything in our power to promote inclusion and acceptance throughout our community.”

Beginning today, the Oneida County Office Building on Park Avenue in Utica will be lit up in multiple colors in recognition of Autism Awareness Month, and money will be raised through a dress down day today and a bake sale on April 27th for Oneida County’s team that is participating in the Walk for Autism on April 29th at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

“Raising awareness for Autism is vital as it impacts so many children and families in Oneida County,” said Oneida County Commissioner of Social Services Lucille Soldato. “I’m pleased, but not surprised, to see so many of our employees doing their part to support such a worthy cause.”
