May 4th Event at MVCC to Assist Displaced Bakery Workers

County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced today that Oneida County will partner with Herkimer County, the New York State Department of Labor and The Center to host a job fair at Mohawk Valley Community College on May 4th to assist more than 200 bakery workers set to lose their jobs later this month.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for our local employers to fill job vacancies with workers who have a great track record and many of the skills they are searching for,” Picente said. “Our region has a long history of cooperating to help our residents, and this has been another case where our counties and the state are working together to help our employers and the people of our region.”

Wednesday’s job fair will take place at MVCC’s Jorgensen Athletic Center in Utica from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

WB Frozen announced earlier this year that it would be closing its Frankfort bakery facility on May 23rd, due to corporate restructuring. That action will put 206 employees out of work.

The Oneida County Office of Workforce Development, Herkimer County Employment and Training and The Center have been collaborating with the New York State Department of Labor to assist the displaced workers.

More than 20 employers have agreed to attend the May 4th job fair, including the Family Dollar Distribution Center, Giotto Enterprises, Indium Corporation, International Wire Group, Remington Arms, Chobani, the Walmart Distribution Centers in Marcy and Sharon Springs, DeIorio Foods, Divine Brothers and ELG Utica Alloys.

Employers interested in participating should contact Michael Clark of the NYS DOL at 315-793-2491.
