New Location Will Better Serve WIC Clients

The Utica offices for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program will be relocated to better serve those currently participating in the program and to facilitate added enrollment, Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. announced today.

 

“I believe WIC clients will find the new offices more accessible and user friendly,”  Picente said. He added, “The many office updates and ample off-street parking will make for a more welcoming atmosphere for the mothers and their children who come to the facility on a regular basis.”

 

Formerly located on Whitesboro Street in West Utica, WIC will begin operations on the first floor of a newly constructed two-story building located at 617 South Street in the city on January 3^rd, 2011. The approximately 3000 square foot site is being leased through the Oneida County Health Department. Hours for the program services will be Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM; Tuesdays form 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM; and Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM.

 

The Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Program is a federally funded program administered through the Oneida County Health Department in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension that provides nutritious foods, educational materials, breast feeding support and dietary assessments for pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children up to five years of age based on income eligibility. Many working families may qualify, as a couple with six children and an annual income of $68,469 is eligible for WIC benefits. In addition to its new South Street offices in the city, WIC operates outreach sites in North Utica, Rome, Camden, Boonville, Waterville, Vernon and Sauquoit currently serving about 5600 clients throughout Oneida County.
