MVCC/LPP Again Offers Lead Renovator Safety Training

First Time Sampling Technician Course Available in August

Area contractors are again being offered EPA mandated training in lead safe work practices through a partnership between Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) and the Oneida County Lead Primary Prevention program (LPP).

Pre-registration for both the ‘Initial Lead Renovators Certification’ training and the ‘Lead Renovators Certificate Refresher’ course is required for the sessions that are part of MVCC’s 2011 Summer/Fall schedule. 

“The Oneida County Lead Primary Prevention Program continues to partner with MVCC to insure access to the required lead education at convenient times and locations for all area contractors and property owners,” Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Jr. said.  He added, “Additionally, the partnership supports employment needs of our local and union construction workers through the expansion of programs being offered.”  

An eight hour Initial Certification Training is being offered on Monday, August 22nd at the MVCC Education Center located at 524 Elizabeth Street in Utica; Thursday, September 8th at Herkimer County Community College; Tuesday, September 13th at Madison-Oneida BOCES; and Tuesday, September 27th at the MVCC Education Center.  The September 27th class is being offered in Spanish.  All classes begin at 8:15 am.  All educational materials are provided.  The fee for the course is $195.

An eight hour course developed by the EPA in conjunction with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and designed for those who will conduct dust wipe testing or clearance examination is being offered for the first time in Utica at MVCC’s Education Center on Wednesday, August 24th.  The course will train renovators, building owners, contractors and maintenance personnel to conduct lead dust testing and clearance. The fee for the course is $195 which runs from 8:15 am to 5:15 pm.   

A four hour Lead Renovators Certificate Refresher course is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4that MVCC Education Center in Utica. The course is designed for renovators with previous lead-safety training to recertify.  The fee for the course is $135 and includes all materials necessary for training.    

Successful completion of these courses insure that contractors, renovators and property owners are in compliance with EPA regulations established in 2010 as well as recently added guidelines regarding containment of lead based paint work areas.
