3rd Annual Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up

The award winning 3rd Annual Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up, collaboration between the Oneida County Youth Bureau, the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care, Oneida County colleges, school districts and youth organizations, had 330 youth volunteers deliver general yard clean-up services to 85 senior citizen locations county-wide. The number of volunteers and locations served were the most ever for the Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up.

“The success of our annual Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up is a direct result of our dedicated, committed and hard-working volunteers,” County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. said. Picente added, “Our Oneida County senior citizens, who no longer can physically do the work or financially afford to have the work done for them, have benefitted tremendously from their volunteer efforts. They continue to remind us that there is good in our world, in our youth and Oneida County is a special place to live.”

The 330 remarkable youth volunteers represented the following colleges, school districts and youth organizations; Hamilton College HAVOC, Hamilton College Women’s Basketball Team, Mohawk Valley Community College’s Student Congress, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Latino Student Union and Welders Among Communities, Utica College’s Men’s Hockey Team, Circle K Club, Asian Student Union, GNT-101 Introduction to Aging Class, Proctor High School’s Key Club, Young Scholars Program and Youth Construction Initiative Program, Rome Free Academy Football Team, Oneida Youth, Inc., Utica Municipal Housing Authority, YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley’s Teen Leaders Program, YWCA of the Mohawk Valley’s YGirls Program, Utica Safe Schools/Healthy Students Underground Café, Boy Scouts from Troop 29, Troop 101 and Crew 112, The House of the Good Shepherd, Notre Dame High School’s Boy’s Varsity Basketball Team and Student Council, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Interact Club, Clinton Central High School, Staley Upper Elementary School, Mohawk Valley Young Professionals and 95 volunteers representing Camden Central High School Athletics!

“I have been honored and extremely fortunate to have met and worked with these incredible young men and women,” Youth Bureau Director Bob Roth said. “I’m constantly amazed at their willingness to help, their work ethic and their wonderful, upbeat personalities,” Roth added.
The 3rd Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up is scheduled for the weekend of Saturday October 22nd and Sunday October 23rd.
