2015 Sidewalk Art Contest

The 7^th Annual Sidewalk Art Contest was held at Oneida County municipalities and youth serving agencies the week of July 7^th 2015. Children in age specific categories; 5-7, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-18 had the opportunity to draw a positive image on a single sidewalk slab with chalk donated from Walmart and Target.

This year 1,130 youth county-wide participated hoping to reach the finals that were held Thursday July 16^th on the sidewalks that encompassed Pratt at Munson-Williams-Proctor on State Street in Utica. The finals competition had 85 youth compete.  Medals were presented to the top three (3) finishers in each age category.  After the competition all 85 finalists were treated to a “free” tour of Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute.  The number of participants county-wide has increased every year!

“The kids artistic abilities and positive self-expressions were beautifully designed for all to be amazed,” Oneida County Youth Bureau Director Kevin Green said.  “The kids decorated the sidewalk with pride, a lot of creative thought, and their energy was refreshing.  This event would not be possible without the support of our fantastic partners; Walmart, Target, Pratt MWP and Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute.  Our partners give the youth of Oneida County an opportunity to experience one of the crown jewels in Oneida County, Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute,” Green added.

Please mark your calendars for the week of July 4^th through July 8^th, 2016 and plan on having your agency, city, town or village participate in our 8^th Annual Sidewalk Art Contest.  The finals will be held the following Thursday, July 14^th.  The event is free.
