2014 Sidewalk Art Contest

2014 Sidewalk Art Contest

The 6th Annual Sidewalk Art Contest was held at Oneida County municipalities and youth serving agencies the week of July 7th 2014. Children in age specific categories; 5-7, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-18 had the opportunity to draw a positive image on a single sidewalk slab with chalk donated from Walmart and Target.

This year 1,096 youth county-wide participated hoping to reach the finals that were held Thursday July 17th on the sidewalks that encompassed Pratt at Munson-Williams-Proctor on State Street in Utica. The finals competition had 105 youth compete. Medals were presented to the top three (3) finishers in each age category. Pratt at Munson-Williams-Proctor (Pratt MWP), our gracious host, gave all the medal winners a Pratt MWP water bottle. After the competition all 105 finalists were treated to a “free” tour of Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute. The number of participants county-wide has increased every year!

“This event, where you walk into with a smile on your face and walk away with an even bigger smile on your face continues to grow,” Oneida County Youth Bureau Director Bob Roth said. “I’m always amazed at the children’s artistic abilities, their imagination and their creativity. It’s a fun event made possible by our fantastic partners; Walmart, Target, Pratt MWP and Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute. It also gives our Oneida County youth an opportunity to experience one of the crown jewels in Oneida County, Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute,” Roth added.

The Youth Bureau would like to extend a special thank you to our sponsors, Walmart and Target, our judges, Danelle DePeyster, Emily Leo, Rochelle Ferro and our wonderful photographer, Katie Weldon.

Please mark your calendars for the week of July 6th through July 10th, 2015 and plan on having your agency, city, town or village participate in our 7th Annual Sidewalk Art Contest. The finals will be held the following Thursday, July 16th. The event is free.

The Oneida County Youth Bureau looks forward to having your youth participate and be a part of this popular, fun-filled event as WE WORK TOGETHER to provide all our Oneida County youth with safe, positive and innovative programs.
