2011 Sidewalk Art Contest

The 3^rd Annual Sidewalk Art Contest was held at county municipalities and youth serving agencies the week of July 11^th 2011. Children in age specific categories; 5-7, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-18 had the opportunity to draw a positive scene on a single sidewalk slab with chalk donated by Wal-Mart.

This year 844 youth county-wide participated hoping to reach the finals that were held Thursday July 21^st on the sidewalks in front of Pratt at Munson-Williams-Proctor on State Street in Utica. The final competition had 70 youth compete. Oneida County Youth Bureau Director Bob Roth presented medals to 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place finishers in each age category. After the competition all 70 finalists were invited to take a free tour at Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute.

“This event, where you walk into with a smile on your face and walk away from with an even bigger smile on your face, continues to grow,” Roth said. “The number of participants and finalists were the largest to date. I’m always amazed at the children’s artistic abilities and their creativity. It’s a fun event and a fantastic opportunity for our Oneida County youth to experience one of the crown jewels of Oneida County, Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute,” Roth added.

Please mark your calendars for the week of July 9^th-13^th 2012 and plan on your municipality or agency to participate in our 4^th Annual Sidewalk Art Contest. The finals will be held the following Thursday, July 19^th. The event is free and the Oneida County Youth Bureau will supply the chalk for your individual competition.
