2009 Sidewalk Art Contest

The 1st annual Oneida County Youth Bureau Sidewalk Art contest was held at county municipalities and youth serving agencies the week of July 13th. Children in age specific categories; 5-7, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-18 had the opportunity to draw a positive scene on a single sidewalk slab with sidewalk chalk. Over 520 youth county-wide participated hoping to reach the finals that were held Thursday July 23rd on the sidewalks in front of Pratt Munson William Proctor in Utica. Each municipality and agency chose their winners.

County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. presented medals to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category. After the competition all 45 finalists were treated to a tour of Munson William Proctor Art Institute.

“It’s an event where you walk in with a smile on your face and walk away from with an even bigger smile on your face,” Oneida County Youth Bureau Director Bob Roth said. “It’s just a fun event and a fantastic opportunity to experience one of the jewels of Oneida County, Munson William Proctor Art Institute.”
