Raccoon Tests Positive for Rabies in City of Rome

A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in Rome. The raccoon was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing and positive results were reported on February 13, 2024.  There are no known exposures to this raccoon.

Raccoon Tests Positive for Rabies in Holland Patent

A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in Holland Patent. The raccoon was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on January 30, 2024 and positive results were reported on January 31, 2024.  There are no known exposures.

Fox That Attacked Residents in Rome Captured & Confirmed Rabid

A fox that attacked multiple residents in the City of Rome last week has been captured and tested positive for rabies. The fox was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on Jan. 16 and positive results were reported on Jan. 17. Four people were exposed to the fox and have received post exposure prophylaxis.

Fox Attacks Multiple Residents in City of Rome

A fox has attacked three people in the City of Rome today, specifically west along the Mohawk River and east of Black River Boulevard. This fox is still loose, and there is a risk that it may attack others. The Rome Police Department has been contacted and is attempting to locate the animal.

Health Department Continues Vaping Enforcement & Education

The Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) is continuing its efforts to enforce against the sale of illegal e-cigarettes and educate the public about the harmful effects of vaping. “Not only is vaping harmful to youth and adults alike, but the sale of flavored e-cigarettes is illegal,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr.

Fox Tests Positive for Rabies in City of Rome

A fox has tested positive for rabies in Rome. The fox was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on January 4, 2024, and positive results were reported on January 5, 2024.  One person was exposed to the fox and has received post exposure prophylaxis.
