It’s National Immunization Awareness Month

Whether you are having a baby, traveling to a new country, or preparing your children to go back to school, vaccines are recommended and often required to help protect you and your family. Before you know it, it will be back to school time. New York State requires specific vaccines, and if not up to date, your child could be excluded from attending school. Make sure your children are prepared by being up to date on all required immunizations and recommended vaccinations.

Upstate University Hospital’s Mammography Van Visiting Oneida County

Upstate University Hospital Mammography Van will be visiting two Oneida County locations to provide free breast cancer screenings through a partnership with the Oneida County Health Department and Mohawk Valley Health System. The first clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 11, 2023 at 50 Forward Mohawk Valley at the Parkway Center located at 220 Memorial Parkway in Utica.

Bat Tests Positive for Rabies in Remsen

A bat has tested positive for rabies in Remsen. The bat was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on July 19, 2023 and positive results were reported on July 20, 2023. Four cats and three dogs were exposed to the bat and received rabies vaccine boosters. Three of these pets will be on a six-month quarantine as they were not up to date with rabies vaccinations.

Oneida County Announces Car Seat Safety Events

The Oneida County Health Department announced new car seat safety events that will be co-hosted with the Sheriff’s Office. This year, the car seat program has expanded to new locations throughout the county. The last event to take place at a new location this year is:
• Adirondack High School, 8181 NY-294, Boonville on August 7th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Fox Tests Positive for Rabies in City of Rome

A fox has tested positive for rabies in Rome. The fox was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on June 28, 2023, and positive results were reported on June 29, 2023. There were no reported human or pet exposures.

Upstate University Hospital’s Mammography Van to Visit 50 Forward Mohawk Valley at the Parkway Center in Utica on August 11

The Upstate University Hospital Mammography Van will visit 50 Forward Mohawk Valley at the Parkway
Center located at 220 Memorial Parkway on Friday, August 11, 2023 for a breast cancer screening clinic. The
screenings will be available between 10:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. and are being offered in conjunction with the
Oneida County Health Department and Mohawk Valley Health System.
