Oneida County to Offer Civil Service Exam for 911 Center Employment

As a result of the consolidation of the New Hartford and Utica Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) into a single PSAP for the entire county, the Oneida County PSAP is in need of staff. The position of a Public Safety Telecommunicator is a civil service position within Oneida County government. The civil service examination for this position is administered by the Oneida County Personnel Department. Applications for this exam must be submitted no later than February 2nd. The exam will be given on March 19th.
It is anticipated that there will be a total of 11 openings with a starting salary of $27,042.
 
Duties in this position include receiving phone calls from those in both emergency and non-emergency situations that will require the assistance of police, fire and emergency medical service providers. Additionally, employees will operate a variety of communications equipment, including computer-based radio and telephone equipment and computer terminals.
 
“These positions are essential to public safety, and we hope to get as many qualified applicants to take this exam as possible,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Jr.
