County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced today that emergency kits and training will be provided to all schools by the Department of Emergency Services at no cost for this upcoming school year.

“Oneida County is committed to the safety and well-being of our students, teachers and staff,” Picente said. “By providing free Stop the Bleed kits and training to every school in our county, we are equipping our educational communities with the tools and knowledge they need to respond to emergencies effectively. This initiative underscores our dedication to creating a safer environment in our schools, where preparedness is paramount.”

Each elementary, middle and high school in Oneida County will receive a Stop the Bleed kit which consists of:

  • SAM XT Extremity Tourniquet
  • Emergency bandages
  • Two rolls of gauze
  • Pair of trauma shears
  • Latex-free examination gloves
  • Permanent marker

Oneida County will also offer Stop the Bleed training to all school administration, staff and students at each location.

It is the first time the county has provided the kits and training to local schools. About 550 kits will go out in the first round. The initiative is being paid for through a New York State grant.
