4th Annual Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up

The award-winning 4th  Annual Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up collaboration between the Oneida County Youth Bureau, the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care, Oneida County colleges, school districts, and youth organizations, had 331 youth volunteers deliver general yard clean-up services to 75 senior citizen locations county-wide. The number of volunteers and locations served were the most ever for the Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up.

“The success of our annual Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up is a direct result of our dedicated, committed, and hard-working volunteers,” County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. said. Picente added, “Our Oneida County senior citizens, who no longer can physically do the work or financially afford to have the work done for them, have benefitted tremendously from their volunteer efforts. They continue to remind us that there is good in our world, in our youth and Oneida County is a special place to live.”

The 331 remarkable youth volunteers represented the following colleges, school districts and youth organizations; Hamilton College Men’s Basketball Team, Mohawk Valley Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Latino Student Union and Welders Among Communities, Utica College’s Men’s Hockey Team, Circle K Club, GNT-101 Introduction to Aging Class and Physical Therapist Society, Proctor High School’s Key Club, Young Scholars Program, Youth Construction Initiative Program and Junior ROTC, Rome Free Academy Football Team, Utica Municipal Housing Authority, Boy Scouts from Troop 29, Troop 101 and Crew 112,  Notre Dame High School’s Varsity Baseball Team and National Honor Society, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Interact Club and National Honor Society, Clinton Central High School’s Varsity Baseball Team, Slavic Pentecostal Youth Group, New Hartford Central High School’s Junior Varsity Football Team, Whitesboro Central High School’s Football Team, Waterville Central High School, John Bosco House and the Sauquoit Valley Central High School National Honor Society.

“I have been honored and extremely fortunate to have met and worked with these incredible young men and women,” Youth Bureau Director Bob Roth said. “I’m constantly amazed at their willingness to help, their work ethic, and their wonderful, upbeat personalities,” Roth added.

The 4th Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up is scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, October 20th, and Sunday, October 21st.
