Picente: DFAS Employment Workshop Scheduled for May 6th at King School

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. today announced that an outstanding partnership of public and private partners is working together to hold an Employment Workshop on May 6th to help the people of Utica’s urban neighborhoods learn about employment opportunities at the Defense Finance Accounting Service office at Griffiss Park in Rome.

The Employment Workshop, sponsored by the Oneida County Office of Workforce Development, AFGE Local 201, DFAS, Success Strategies and the Utica/Oneida County Branch of the NAACP, will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6th, at Martin Luther King School, 211 Square Street, Utica.
“The growth of DFAS has provided outstanding employment opportunities across our region,” Picente said. “I am very pleased that we are able to partner with DFAS and its workers, as well as the community, to bring this workshop to Utica so that all parts of our region’s diverse population have employment opportunities at DFAS.”
Picente said that the workshops are valuable to neighborhood residents who are currently looking for employment as well as those who plan to enter the workforce in the coming months. “Attending this workshop will give our local residents the opportunity to learn the skills and training they need in order to be competitive for employment at DFAS,” Picente said. “These are very high-skilled jobs with outstanding career potential. I strongly encourage local residents to get the facts about careers at DFAS.”
Picente noted that men and women who have some of the skills for DFAS jobs, but who still need training in some areas to increase their abilities, should contact the Working Solutions office in Utica to determine if they could be eligible for training funds that have been made available through the Recovery Act. Working Solutions in Utica is located on the Second Floor of the State Office, Building, 207 Genesee Street.
