Picente Encourages Residences To Attend Oneida County Flood Recovery Center

New York State and Oneida County Flood Recovery Center To Open In New Hartford on Sunday July, 21st.

In conjunction with New York State 2013 Flood Recovery Assistance Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. encourages all residents affected by flooding to go to the Oneida County Flood Recovery Center located at the New Hartford Fire Department 4 Oxford Rd. in New Hartford and begin the application process to receive assistance.

Mohawk Valley and 2013 Upstate Flood Recovery Program

On June 28, 2013, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo issued a Disaster Declaration in response to the devastating floods that occurred between June 26th and July 3rd in the Mohawk Valley and Niagara County. On July 17, 2013, in response to the impact of these floods and the lack of approved federal disaster aid for individual assistance, the Governor announced the creation of the Mohawk Valley and 2013 Upstate Flood Recovery Program.

The Oneida County Summer Youth Employment Program is working with local partners to clean up damage from this summer’s storms

Oneida County’s Summer Youth Program is an important part of Oneida County’s commitment to helping local agencies through community service. Multiple severe storms during June and early July left culverts and drainage areas on the Utica Zoo’s property plugged with debris, creating the potential for flooding and erosion. The Oneida County Summer Youth Employment Program teamed with the Zoo in an important project to clean out the drainage areas to protect the landscape and the neighborhoods downhill from Utica’s landmark Zoo.

Building upon the success of his collaborative effort to develop a world-class home-grown workforce, Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. today announced that the SEMI High Tech U Teacher Edition will return for a second summer. Picente said the project, which helps local teachers inspire and educate students in key skill areas needed by local high-growth employers, is supported by the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Workforce Investment Board, Mohawk Valley EDGE, BOCES and National Grid.

Today, New York State Office of Mental Health released a new Regional Center of Excellence Plan. The OMH is moving to a Regional Center of Excellence Model that will focus on an integrated health network, providing the most advanced diagnostics, treatment and support services available in the most effective way.

Internship at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC)

For Mackenzi VanSlyke of Lee Center, her internship at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) has provided her more than just something to do this summer, it’s provided her with real world experience she will use in her future career. VanSlyke, who graduated from MVCC this spring, finds that the internship has helped reinforce what she learned in school, as well as providing her with new experiences. “It’s a lot of physical working. I get to learn the processes behind everything. Here it’s all teamwork,” she said.
