The Housing Unit serves as a liaison for Social Welfare Examiners, landlords, and clients to improve communications and explain terminology and procedure. The Housing Unit was established to help the recipients of Temporary Assistance secure safe, affordable housing. The staff in the Housing Unit work with the Codes Departments of Utica and Rome, various town supervisors, the Health Department, the Family Unification Program (FUP, a division of the HUD [Housing and Urban Development] office), and landlord associations. Workers in this unit can offer Tenant Responsibility Agreements (TRA) to landlords and clients in place of a security deposit, obtain paperwork necessary for a client move, work with agencies in obtaining subsidized housing, and monitor that housing is safe. They also offer information on available area housing. The Housing Unit can be contacted at (315) 798-3661.
