Picente Announces 10th Annual Intergenerational Clean-Ups

Spring Clean-Up Takes Place This Weekend, Fall Clean-Up In October

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced today that the Oneida County Youth Bureau and the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care will once again join forces for the 10th Annual Intergenerational Clean-Ups.

The county initiative unites youth from area colleges, school districts and youth organizations with senior citizens in order to deliver general yard clean-up services.

This year, the spring clean-up will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 28 and April 29. Youth volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. each day in the Proctor Park parking lot off of Welsh Bush Road in Utica. The event happens rain or shine and media is invited to attend.

“Last October, 650 youth volunteers throughout Oneida County raked and collected leaves, swept porches, sidewalks and driveways and brought light refuse to the curb at 110 senior citizen households during our Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up,” Picente said. “Our fall and spring clean-ups deliver much needed services each year to our seniors who can physically no longer do the work themselves or can’t afford to pay to have it done. The clean-ups also give our community youth the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

This year’s fall session is scheduled for October 20 and 21.
