Picente Announces Inaugural STOP DWI High School Baseball Classic

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. today announced that Oneida County will host the inaugural STOP DWI High School Baseball Classic. The event is free to the public and will take place Friday, April 20th, and Saturday, April 21st at Murnane Field in Utica.

The tournament will involve high school baseball programs from all five New York State Athletic classes (AA, A, B, C, and D), and will be used as a kickoff to the STOP DWI Teen Traffic Safety Education Program. The Teen Traffic Safety Program is presented annually to high school students throughout Oneida County during the last week of April and first week of May, prior to prom season.

County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. said, “The core mission of our STOP DWI Teen Traffic Safety Education Program is to educate teens on the consequences that can result from destructive decisions. This event is centered on this message, and there will be educational presentations throughout the facility during the tournament. We are encouraging all those who can to attend to come to what should be an entertaining weekend of quality baseball.”

Among those offering educational presentations are: Oneida County STOP DWI, The New York State Police, New York State Department of Transportation, and the Insight House. Additionally, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department will offer finger printing for children and will also be taking pictures for SAFE CHILD identification cards.

A number of sponsors have helped in putting the event together. These include AAA of New York, Chobani Greek Yogurt, My Hometown Sports/ESPN Radio, Don’s Ford Superstore, Excellus BlueCross/Blue Shield, MVCC, Coca-Cola and Tents Plus Party Rentals.
