County Improves Delta Lake Safety By Donating Boat to Western Fire Department

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. and Oneida County Sherriff Robert Maciol announced today that Oneida County is donating a boat formerly used by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office to the Town of Western Fire Department for the Fire Department’s use in rescue situations on Delta Lake.

“This particular boat was a surplus item for the county, and it is a much better use of it to have it with the Town of Western Fire Department where it can be of assistance to the public,” Picente said. “I want to thank Sheriff Rob Maciol and Western Fire Chief Michael Anania for their efforts to work out this transfer. One of the points I have made continually is that the more we talk about needs and opportunities for sharing, the more we can find creative ways to get the job done without spending taxpayer’s money.”

Maciol said that he was pleased to work with the Town of Western Fire Department. “Western has some very important responsibilities in terms of protecting the public around the Delta Lake area, and having this boat will allow them to serve the vacationing public better as well as the year-round residents of their fire district. I am glad to see this boat being given a new home where it can help the Fire Department in its efforts to protect the people of the town and the region.”

Anania said the county was a great partner in helping the Fire Department. “We know the needs of our community and our region, and we work very hard to provide the maximum protection that we can. Every year we see an increase in the numbers of people out boating, and the need for increased ability to respond grows every year as well. I know that my volunteers are anxious to serve the public, and we appreciate the collaboration of the county to offer us one more way to help the people we serve.”

The boat is a 1990 Sylvan 21’ Aluminum Boat, white with blue top. Along with the boat, the county is donating the boat’s trailer, a gray 1990 Kristi Duel Axel.
