Picente Invites Krugman To Visit Oneida County And Learn About The Economy
Today, Oneida County Executive responded to “haphazard tweets” from Paul Krugman in regards to Utica, Oneida County and the Economy in an attached letter. Picente outlines the progress made in Oneida County over the past ten years alone and invites Mr. Krugman to visit the area and learn about the local economy.
County Employees Sponsoring Thea Bowman House 2016 Benefit Drive
County Executive Anthony Picente and Oneida County Employees are having a benefit drive the week of December 12th to assist the Thea Bowman House. Employees can donate baby supplies, school supplies and personal items to the drive. Every employee who donates by Wednesday December 14th will be able to participate in a dress down day on Thursday December 15th.
The small gray aircraft that has recently appeared in the Griffiss airport traffic pattern is an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) manufactured by Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation (NASC) located in Warminster, PA. NASC was contracted by the U.S. Government to build a special version of an existing and proven unmanned aerial vehicle UAV, the TigerShark, for use in the Arctic. NASC has chosen the name ArcticShark for this TigerShark variant that has been specially modified for cold-weather operations.
Oneida County public health department advises the Rome Community that effective today, November 22, 2016, a boil-water advisory has been issued by the City of Rome for areas that are supplied by Rome’s water supply.
A boil water notice is issued to protect consumers from potentially contaminated drinking water.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that Governor Andrew Cuomo has recently appointed Sheriff Robert Maciol as a Member of the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council for a term to expire on March 20th, 2018.
Newly Constructed Public Parking Lots Are Open To The Public
Access control (gates) for employee parking lots will be activated on November 7, 2016.
All County and NYS Court employees will be given access. A County issued identification card will be required to activate card readers/gates.
Members of the public can access the Visitor Parking Lots located on Park Ave and Elizabeth St.

In 2015 State of the County Address, County Executive Anthony Picente, created a team to develop a County-wide Arrest Diversion Program which can be a model for the rest of New York State and will build upon the success of the Utica School District and Utica Safe Schools Diversion Program. The Utica School District. Utica Police Department and Utica Safe Schools pilot diversion program only in Utica Schools has a 92% success rate.
October 17th Begins Cancer Screening Week In Oneida County
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a chance to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Oneida County has a series of events throughout October to assist spreading the word about mammograms and encourage our employees, community, families, and individuals to get screened and spread awareness.

Annual Report Details 2015 Progress, Achievements
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. has released a progress report detailing the accomplishments of the Vision 2020 initiative to date and action items for 2016.
An integral part of the Heroin Opiate Education Program of Center for Family Life and Recovery, Inc., Oneida County, in collaboration with the Oneida County Opiate Task Force, is continuing to combat opioid and heroin use in the community. The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports 20% of people ages 12 and older have used prescription drugs for nonmedical reasons at least once in their lifetime. Nearly 14% of these people meet the criteria for abuse of, or dependence upon it.
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. today announced that the Oneida County Youth Bureau will be hosting a FREE Baseball Skills Clinic for youth ages 9-12yrs. old. The Skills Clinic will be presented by the Utica Blue Sox and Accelerate Sports staff and players at historic Murnane Field, Wednesday July 6th from 9am-12pm.

Crackdown on impaired driving throughout the 4th of July Holiday
The Oneida County STOP DWI Program announced today that Oneida County Police Agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving throughout the FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY. The crackdown period will run from July 1 – July 5.
Flags Are Distributed to 41 locations and placed at gravesites throughout the county
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced that for Memorial Day Oneida County purchased 32,724 12”x18” Flags that were distributed to over 40 locations throughout the County and placed at Veteran’s Gravesites in cemeteries all throughout the County. All flags were made in America at a total cost of $19,184.76 through the Oneida County Department of Veteran’s Services.
Canned Food Drive/Dress Down Day for County Employees Will Be May 20th In Honor of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced that in honor of Armed Forces Day and upcoming Memorial Day there will be a dress Down Day this Friday, May 20th to support the Central New York Veteran's Outreach Center food pantry. Employees that bring in 2 non-perishable food items will receive a red, white & blue bracelet and can wear jeans on Friday, May 20th.
Fitch Ratings Upgraded Oneida County From A+ to Higher AA Rating.
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. and Oneida County Comptroller Joseph J. Timpano today announced the final reporting of Oneida County’s fiscal position at the end of 2015 as well as the findings of the three national credit rating agencies.

The Oneida County STOP DWI Program said thank you, today, to the men and women who protect our communities and roadways with a Recognition Breakfast, which was held at MVCC. The breakfast is designed to honor individual officers and Police Agencies in Oneida County for their outstanding DWI Enforcement efforts.

County Executive Picente along with Oneida County Youth Bureau and Oneida County Stop DWI, participating school districts, partners and sponsors announced Teen Safety and Education Week. Teen Safety and Education Week is the week of April 19th.
Program Is Funded With $50,000 in Partners in Prosperity Public Safety Funding
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr outlined new program aimed at combating opioid and heroin use in the community. The program, funded with $50,000 in Partners in Prosperity Public Safety money will be implemented in collaboration with the Oneida County Opiate Task Force and through the Center for Family and Life Recovery and is another step in Oneida County’s comprehensive approach to combating this epidemic.
“With the Governor’s Budget now set into motion, we look forward to continuing to move this region forward together. With the Governors continued commitment, backed with 300 million for our state of the art hospital and 585 million for the AMS Chip Fabrication Plant Oneida County is poised for unprecedented once in a generation growth. I commend Governor Cuomo and the New York State Legislature for bringing these vital investments to our region, and continuing to make rebuilding Upstate New York and Oneida County a top priority.”
