Community Health Assessment
“Oneida County will be the healthiest county in New York State; this will be achieved through committed and innovative leaders and by a community that engages all ages, cultures, and abilities and embraces the potential of the human spirit.”

The Oneida County Health Department and Community Partners have been conducting a variety of activities as part of the Community Health Assessment.
Visioning - A series of visioning sessions were held around the community. As a product of those sessions, the Oneida County Community Vision Statement was developed. The statement reflects comments received from 140+ people involved in the visioning process. As it is not possible to include all comments, we hope you will feel that the statement reflects an overall common shared vision. Much effort has been made to remain true to the comments and concerns of all participants and we thank those who contributed.
Community Survey - The Oneida County Health Department and members of the community are undergoing an assessment of Oneida County, and your thoughts and opinions are an important part of that assessment. Over 2,000 people completed a survey about the most important health issues in Oneida County. With representation from each postal zip code in the County, over 2,000 selected their top health and quality of life issues as well as the characteristics that define a healthy community. Respondents completed the survey electronically or on paper. Detailed results will be made available.
Forces of Change - In September 2008 community leaders came together for a regional brainstorming session to identify 'forces of change', or trends, factors, and events that impact the health and quality of life of our community. Results from this session will be included in the final Community Health Assessment report.
Current Activities
The Community Health Assessment is a comprehensive health profile of our community, including an assessment and picture of current health status, health needs, and priorities. OCHD is partnering with the Oneida County Health Coalition and a broad representation of community members, healthy system partners, and community partnerships in the development of an Oneida County Community Health Assessment. The community wide strategic planning tool, Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP), will be used to facilitate the process.
